Last Chance for the 2022 Truterra Carbon Program
Don't miss out on your opportunity to participate in the 2022 Truterra® Carbon Program. The deadline to take the survey is February 1st, 2022

About the Program:

The 2022 Truterra® Carbon Program purchases vintage Carbon Offset Credits from farmers across the United States. This program focuses on the use of cover crops in rotation and/or a reduction in tillage of a field. Cover crops increase the amount of time a field has a growing crop throughout the year. The longer green and growing plants are on a field, the more carbon is being utilized in photosynthesis. When soil is disturbed with tillage, carbon is released back into the air. Reducing tillage helps the soil retain the carbon it has been sequestered. To qualify for the 2022 Truterra® Carbon Program, one of these practices had to have been implemented for the first time on the qualifying acres between the years of 2019 to 2021.

Growers will be paid $20/Ton of equivalent CO2/year since implementing the improved practice(s) based upon modeling and soil testing. The rate of CO2 in a field is impacted by tillage, cropping rotation, and soil type. Truterra® covers the cost of the soil testing that is required for this program.

Do you have concerns about jumping into a Carbon Program? We are aware that the Carbon Market space is very much unknown and feels a little like the wild west. Please understand that taking the initial survey does not lock you in to the program. If you qualify based on this first survey, you will be contacted to discuss the next steps. Until a contract is signed, you are not locked into the program.

Our Why:

As your local Truterra® aligned cooperative in Central Kansas, Great Bend Co-op was able to help return over $625,000.00 in Carbon Offset Credit dollars to our growers for implementation of sustainable farming practices on their acres. This was over 15% of the total TruCarbon® Payout in 2021, making Great Bend Co-op #1 in the Nation for dollars returned to our growers in this carbon program.

Great Bend Co-op chose to join the TruCarbon® program knowing that we have some of the best producers in the industry as our grower-owners and that they have been implementing these qualifying practices as a way to increase profitability while being strongly sustainable.
